Monday 26th September marks the start of a ‘Healthy Week’ showcasing a wide range of activities available at Castletown Liam Mellows GAA Club.
Club members and non-members alike are invited to exercise and get involved, and with a variety of activities and talks planned for the week, organizers hope to have something for everyone. Marc Halpin Fitness will be hosting a variety of circuits including functional fitness and fat loss circuits, men over 40 circuits, open circuits and individual training. The full schedule of his events can be found on his Instagram profile. Aislinn will be leading yoga classes throughout the week to help people reconnect with their bodies and minds. These include beach yoga classes, chair yoga, mom and baby yoga, and more.
For those who wish to learn a little more about health and well-being, the club is hosting a series of lectures including a first aid information evening on Thursday 29 September at 8pm and a nutrition lecture with Ciara Goland on Saturday 6 September at 8pm. October from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those who combine sporting activities for two with a bit of fun can take part in one of the camogie, rounder or football sessions from “Mothers and Others” throughout the week. For male participants there are ‘dads and boys’ football games throughout the week. “Castletown Liam Mellow’s GAA Club has been an active Healthy Club member since 2016 when they joined the GAA Healthy Club project and we have gradually increased our activities year after year. Our goal as a Healthy Club is to support everyone’s physical, social, emotional and mental health and to make the GAA Club a center for community health that people of all ages can participate in,” explained Liz. “Over the years we have held a number of events including drug and alcohol awareness sessions, water safety, first aid, gambling awareness and more recently yoga classes, GAA for moms and others, a Rounders team and a Camogie Session for beginners, gardening advice and much more.”
The club recently began circuit training for both men and women. with a special course for men over 40 who want to improve strength and flexibility.
