Donald Trump news live: DeSantis met with 2024 chants after Florida win as ‘rattled’ Trump vows to leak dirt on him

‘Get ready’: Trump says he’ll run for president again in 2024

Ron DeSantis, the Republican governor of Florida, defied Donald Trump’s ominous pre-election threat to win a second term, according to Associated Press projections.

Trump has warned that DeSantis could hurt him badly if he tries to run for president in 2024.

More than 90 minutes after the AP called the race, Mr. Trump still had not congratulated Mr. DeSantis, though he told reporters that he voted for him in his home county in Florida.

Meanwhile, the former president himself wasted no time in making baseless claims of voter fraud and called on his supporters to protest before the by-elections were over.

It seems his party had a very disappointing night. Despite Joe Biden’s strong approval rating, the GOP lost a key Senate seat in Pennsylvania and is struggling to clear two others that should have taken control of the chamber. Meanwhile, the House is still in play, with Democrats picking up more vulnerable seats across the country than expected.

Trump slams GOP New Hampshire candidate who backed down on election denial

Mr Trump spoke briefly to reporters gathered at Mar-a-Lago as he bragged about the candidates.

“Wouldn’t it be fun if we did better than the general election? [primary] recommendations,” he said The Washington Post.

The former president spent election night with longtime advisers and donors at his side. They all expected the Republicans to do better.

After grabbing the spotlight Tuesday night, Mr. Trump took to the Truth Social to attack GOP New Hampshire candidate Dan Boldak, who withdrew his reelection bid but lost to Democratic incumbent Maggie Hassan.

“Dan Bolduc is a very nice guy, but after his big primary victory in the 2020 presidential election, he lost tonight because he denied his long-standing position on election fraud. If he had been strong and true, he would have won easily. Lessons learned!!!” Mr Trump wrote.

Trump left DeSantis out of his election night speech

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis won re-election by 20 points, 15 points more than Mr Trump won in the 2020 presidential election in the Sunshine State.

At his victory party, supporters chanted “two more years” as they pushed him to run for president in 2024 before the governor’s term ends.

Mr Trump’s election night event was overshadowed by a tropical storm moving towards Mar-a-Lago. As of Wednesday morning, the private club was in a mandatory evacuation zone, according to The Washington Post.

The former president gave a brief speech Tuesday night, thanking the press for attending, bragging about the candidates who won their races and congratulating some Republicans who won and some who were leading when the votes were counted.

But he did not mention Mr DeSantis.

Trump goes to bed and has a “great evening.”

After last night’s results came in, Donald Trump, who insisted on “truth,” closed the evening celebrating a “great night” — specifically, for the candidates he endorsed — and accused the media of spinning the result against him. Given what happened in the intervening six hours, it’s unclear whether he’ll experience the same feeling when he wakes up.

Trump has another reason to worry

A disgusted and humiliated Republican Party is far from Donald Trump’s only problem after last night’s shocking results. As Politico’s Kyle Cheney reports, there are now two full years in which his myriad legal troubles could overwhelm him:

Among the people most threatening to the former president is New York Attorney General Letitia James, who is suing him and his company for alleged multimillion-dollar tax fraud in his real estate business. As expected, he was re-elected last night. Marusha Mufajar Statements:

JT Vance excludes Trump from victory speech

Ohio Senate candidate and now senator-elect JT Vance has been one of Donald Trump’s success stories in this year’s primaries, moving to the top of the field after the former president’s endorsement — but how he won his race, he forgot about the most obvious opportunity. To express his gratitude:

Unlike many right-wing candidates running in vulnerable seats, Mr. Vance has at no point shied away from Trump-style rhetoric in the general election, instead doubling down on a number of relatively extreme positions.

ICYMI: Trump reveals he voted for Ron DeSantis

Trump cast his ballot in Palm Beach, Florida on Tuesday.

The former president, flanked by his wife Melania, briefly spoke to reporters as he emerged from the polling station, revealing that he had voted to re-elect his rival, Ron DeSantis.

“I think we’re going to have a great night, and it’s going to be great for the country,” he said of the elections.

“Whoever you vote for, you should vote. This is very important. This will be a very important election.

“Hopefully the right thing will happen.”

Mr Trump responded boldly to a question about his own election aspirations in 2024, dropping another hint as to when he might announce his presidential bid.

“I think Tuesday [15 November] It will be a very exciting day for a lot of people and I look forward to seeing you at Mar-a-Lago,” he said.

ICYMI: Trump Unleashes Truth Society After Voting

After voting in Florida, Donald Trump unleashed election-related posts on Truth Social.

In one, he outlined all the candidates he endorsed this election cycle, calling the endorsements “an unprecedented victory for Trump.”

He later wrote: “Reports are coming in from Arizona that voting machines are malfunctioning in predominantly Republican/Conservative areas. Could this be true when the majority of Republicans were waiting to vote today? Shall we go again? People will not stand for that!!!”

In another post, the former president added: “Everybody get out and vote. Make America Great Again!”

Then came: “Pennsylvania announced that it could take several days to decide the winner. It’s outrageous!”

“Another big voter registration problem in Arizona. Sound familiar???”

“The absentee ballot situation in Detroit is terrible. People show up to vote only to be told, ‘Sorry, you’ve already voted.’ It’s happening everywhere else in a big way. Protest, protest, protest!”

“Maricopa County in Arizona looks like a complete voter integrity disaster. So does Detroit (of course!), Pennsylvania, and other places. Not covered by the fake news media!”

Who will become the real king?

Who is the real king after the dust settles tonight? My colleague Andrew Buncombe Explores the growing rivalry between Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis.

“Two clear signs emerged this week of how Trump is threatened by the younger, Yale-educated DeSantis,” writes Andrew.

“On Saturday he tested a bad nickname for the Florida governor — ‘Ron Desanctimonious’ — something he did when he was threatened by “‘Crooked Hillary’ Clinton, ‘Little Marco’ Rubio and ‘Lying Dead’ Cruz. …

“When DeSantis declined in his debate with Crist to serve a full second term if elected, Todd Belt, a political science professor at George Washington University, underscored the widely held belief that he plans to run for president.”
