II took less than 48 hours for wealthy residents of Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, to deport 50 immigrants from their island, but the many communities overwhelmed by President Joe Biden’s border crisis have no such option.
Back in May, the mayor of Yuma, Arizona, asked the Biden administration to stop bus service for immigrants to his small town of 97,000. “That would be good policy [U.S. Customs and Border Protection] will not be released in communities of fewer than one million people. There is an infrastructure need that comes naturally to about a million people. And under that, local communities have been disproportionately affected,” said Mayor Doug Nicholls, a Republican Washington Examiner.
Biden ignored him and sent more and more immigrants to his city without warning.
Now the city of Yuma is in front of you $20 million health bill in addition to countless other housing and grocery bills.
“You have mayors from Washington, DC and New York City complaining about a few thousand people over three or four months — we see those numbers monthly or even weekly,” Nicholls told reporters. “If those few thousand people make a difference, imagine the impact of over 200,000 people.”
Yuma isn’t the only community that has been overwhelmed by immigrants released into their community by the Biden administration. Democratic Mayor of El Paso Oscar Leeser has sent over 2,000 immigrants to New York City on 51 buses.
DeSantis’ decision to send 50 immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard wasn’t just a political ploy to embarrass Biden, though she did. It’s also meant to educate Democrats about the very real cost Biden’s catch-and-release border policy have on the southern border.
Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser told reporters this weekend, “We’re not a border town. We don’t have the infrastructure to handle this type and scale of immigration to our city. … We are not Texas.”
What East Coast Democrats like Bowser fail to understand is that no state has the infrastructure to handle the flood of immigrants that Biden’s border policies have caused. Biden has caught and released more than 1.4 million immigrants in the United States since taking office, a population of more than nine states. This is a completely unprecedented figure.
Where will all these immigrants live? Who should pay for her apartment? Apparently none of the huge summer homes on Martha’s Vineyard are being made available to accommodate her.
Democrats have no problem supporting Biden’s catch-and-release border policy as long as they don’t have to pay for it. But once the Democrats start footing the bill, immigrants suddenly have to be moved elsewhere.
