Free TAFE courses for ‘in-demand’ industries

Free TAFE courses are being offered by the state government in emergency medicine, mental health, family violence and agriculture to build Victoria’s most in-demand industries in 2023.

Education and Skills Secretary Gayle Tierney visited Victoria University’s simulated ambulance laboratory last week to announce the Diploma of Emergency Health Care as one of four new priority free TAFE courses and six new short courses to be launched by the Labor Government from the will offer next year.

These new TAFE courses build on the work to create a world-class healthcare system by making nursing studies free and hiring 2,200 paramedics to add 22,000 to our healthcare workforce.

Currently offered at Victoria University and Swinburne University, the diploma course qualifies students to work in non-emergency transport as ambulance attendants, ambulance officers and ambulance community officers – and provides access to university paramedic courses.

Other new courses to be added to the 2023 TAFE free list include Certificate III in Production Horticulture, Graduate Certificate in Client Assessment and Case Management qualifying health and community service workers in the area of ​​family violence, and the Interpreter Diploma ( abroad). .

Next year, six short courses will also be offered under Free TAFE, including courses in mental health, agricultural chemical handling and electric and hybrid car maintenance, providing the skills Victorians need for growing and in-demand industries across the state.

Free TAFE has saved students more than $297m in fees since the Labor government introduced it in 2019 – removing the barriers to training for a great new career for more than 122,200 Victorians.

The program has seen an increase in enrollments in most in-demand industries – with 56 percent growth in 2021 in the Diploma of Nursing, 80 percent in the Certificate IV in Disability and more than 113 percent in early childhood work support courses at The Best Start of government, best life reforms.

Since 2014, the Labor Government has made a record investment of $3.5 billion to rebuild the Liberals’ ‘broken’ TAFE sector and to support universities and higher education to give every Victorian access to quality education and rewarding career paths enable.
