Gov. Ricketts honors recipients of 2022 Governor’s Wellness Award


LINCOLN, Nebraska (KMTV) — Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts honored recipients of the 2022 Governor’s Wellness Award Monday.

The award was created to recognize Nebraska employers who devote leadership, resources and time to workplace wellbeing efforts.

Today Governor Pete Ricketts and the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) announced this year’s recipients of the Governor’s Wellness Award. Steffany Lien, Miss Nebraska 2022, joined the Governor and DHHS to congratulate the honorees and highlight the importance of wellbeing in the workplace. Five Nebraska organizations are recognized for offering evidence-based wellness programs in the workplace.

“The Governor’s Wellness Award recognizes employers who have built a culture of wellbeing in their workplace,” said Governor Ricketts. “I commend this year’s winners for investing in the physical and mental health of their teammates. An organization’s employees are its greatest asset. It makes good business sense for companies to encourage good nutrition and healthy lifestyles through workplace programs.”

Over the past year, award winners have offered stress-reducing activities like yoga, hosted blood donations, created a school health index, planned community events to encourage exercise, and conducted free health screenings for teammates.

The Governor’s Wellness Award was first presented in 2008, making it the 15thth Year, it recognized organizations that devote resources and time to wellness efforts in the workplace. Each applicant is required to provide information in the areas of leadership, data collection, intervention strategies, policy/environmental support, and evaluation of results.

The Governor’s Wellness Award has three categories:

  • The Sower Award recognizes workplaces that have implemented quality wellness programs.
  • The Grower Award honors companies and organizations that show a significant improvement in the health behavior of their employees.
  • The Harvester Awards recognize employers who experience documented value and return on investment through their wellness initiatives.

The 2022 Governor’s Wellness Award winners are:

  • Associate Personnel (Grand Island) – Sower Award
  • Grand Island Northwest Public Schools – Sower Award
  • Nebraska Methodist College (Omaha) – Producer Award
  • ESU #2 (Fremont) – Breeder’s Award
  • University of Nebraska (Lincoln) Foundation – Harvester Award

Including this year’s winners, a total of 490 awards have been presented statewide since the Governor’s Wellness Awards program began.

The Governor’s Wellness Award is sponsored by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services and administered by the Panhandle Worksite Wellness Council, part of the Panhandle Public Health District.
