The pandemic and global economic pressures have exacerbated the mental health crisis worldwide with employees increasingly seeking support from their employers. A recent UK Corporate Mental Health Benchmark Report by CCLA found that 93 out of 100 companies assessed recognized mental health in the workplace as an important business issue. While supporting employee mental health is an increasingly important topic on company agendas, more work is needed in this area to bring about real change. A recent Headspace Health study found that one in three British workers feel their employer is not doing enough to support their mental health, with more than half (63%) admitting to missing at least one day of work in a 12-month period due to stress. , anxiety or other mental health challenges.
Headspace Health’s stepped care approach is designed with an emphasis on prevention, providing employees with the ability to increase or decrease the level of support they need as individual needs change over time. The end-to-end offering includes:
-
Self-directed care: On-demand, self-guided activities through the Headspace app to build proactive skills and improve everyday well-being. Employees can access more than 1,000 hours of mindfulness content from evidence-based meditations, eye-opening exercises such as mindful walks and runs, breathing and calming exercises, focusing music, sleep content and more.
-
Behavioral Health Coach: Unlimited 24/7 access to Headspace Health’s team of highly trained behavioral coaches to build coping skills and manage everyday stressors related to general well-being, work, family and relationships, among others. Coaching is delivered via text with a market-leading response time – within two minutes – so employees can access the support they need in real time.
-
Therapy: High-quality clinical care provided via video, telephone or in person by licensed therapists trained in a range of clinical specialties and evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Employees can request a therapist based on their personal preferences after seeking clinical support.
-
EAP services: In addition to the above framework, a dedicated EAP account specialist can ensure that employees have access to support on issues ranging from elder and child care to financial and legal support.
“We’re building the mental health solution that you would design if you were building the system from scratch,” said Russell Glass, CEO of Headspace Health. “People know and love Headspace, so it creates an accessible, engaging gateway for individuals who can then access higher levels of care when needs arise. Extending this full capability to the UK today marks a major milestone in our journey to transform mental health care into improving the health and happiness of the world.”
Dr. Dana Udall, MD, Chief Clinical Officer of Headspace Health, added, “Having pioneered this integrated offering in the US, we are thrilled to deliver a complete solution for organizations internationally. Of existing Headspace Health members using our stepped care model, 80% have their needs fully met through training and content alone, with an average of 4.85/5 satisfaction with our trainers and clinical care providers. Our studies show that using more cost-effective forms of care in accessible settings yields similar levels of improvement while reserving clinical capacity for those who really need it.”
