New Delhi, September 20:
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh held bilateral talks with Egyptian Defense Minister General Mohamed Zaki in Cairo on Monday and signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen defense cooperation in all sectors of common interest.
At the meeting, both ministers discussed steps to strengthen defense ties and agreed on joint counterinsurgency exercises.

Rajnath Singh took to Twitter and wrote: “We had an excellent meeting with Egyptian Defense Minister General Mohamed Zaki in Cairo. We had wide-ranging discussions on several initiatives to further expand bilateral defense engagements. The signing of the Defense Cooperation MoU adds new impetus and synergy to our relationship.”

In a statement, the Ministry of Defense said: “The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding by the two defense ministers on defense cooperation was a milestone during the visit, which will pave the way for enhanced defense cooperation in all sectors of common interest.”
Both leaders also exchanged views on regional security and recognized India’s and Egypt’s contribution to world peace and stability.
Rajnath Singh invited Zaki to the Indo-Africa Defense Dialogue and IOR Defense Ministers’ Conclave to be held as part of the 12th DefExpo in Gandhinagar, Gujarat on October 18-22 this year.
Rajnath Singh also paid tribute to the Unknown Soldier memorial and tombstone of late Egyptian President Anwar El-Sadat in Cairo.
Rajnath Singh, who is in Egypt on a three-day visit, was given a ceremonial guard of honor at the Ministry of Defense in Cairo before the start of bilateral talks.
