Job Title: Nutrition Program Coordinator

Location: Burao, Togdheer Region

position summary

The Nutritional Program Coordinator, under the guidance of the Nutritional Program Manager, provides direction and overall management of ANPPCAN Somaliland’s nutritional activities in the Togdheer region. As a member of the ANPPCAN nutritional team, she/he is involved in key decisions for the nutritional program in Burao, Oodwayne, Buuhoodle and Ainabo. Along with the Nutrition Program Manager and program staff, the post holder participates in defining intervention priorities and establishing necessary contacts and relationships with governments, non-governmental organizations, donors and UN agencies at the field level. The Nutritional Program Coordinator is expected to ensure timely, high-quality, accountable and conservation-minded delivery of the nutritional intervention in the Togdheer region, in line with national and international guidelines.

main responsibilities

  • Overall management of daily nutrition and nutrition-integrated program activities in Burao, Ainabo, Odweine and Buuhoodle districts of Somaliland;
  • Coordinate the various program components by ensuring a strong link between community activities, MIYCN, OTP, SC, MNP and ECD services to be implemented in 25 health centers, 2 hospitals and 75 community nutrition sites.
  • Supervise and assist community nutrition workers in implementing high-quality community mobilization for the successful outcome of the MIYCN, MNP, ECD, and Mother-Led MUAC interventions.
  • Report to the nutritional program manager weekly on the implementation of the MIYCN, OTP, SC, MNP, ECD, and maternal MUAC approach.
  • Conducting a joint supporting monitoring and capacity assessment of MIYCN, OTP, SC, MNP and ECD services with MoHD and including the results in the monthly progress report;
  • Tracking of food stock management; monitor consumption rates and ensure supplies are ordered on time;
  • Ensuring that all criteria are respected and understood by nutrition professionals, including admission, release and transfer to and from the different components of the program in accordance with the IYCF, IMAM and MNP protocols;
  • Conduct regular nutrition team meetings
  • Prepare and submit progress reports and statistical reports to the Nutrition Program Manager on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Ensure that all healthcare facilities supported by ANPPCAN Somaliland are equipped with all necessary tools, consumables, medicines and visibility materials (e.g. surveillance cards, recording and reporting tools, ECD kits, MUAC tapes, scales, medication, RUTF, counseling cards , Transfer). guides, etc.);
  • Ensure that the service areas of all health facilities and community feeding sites are properly demarcated and their populations listed and properly documented, maintained and archived for reference.
  • Participate in writing donor proposals for nutritional interventions as needed;
  • If delegated, act in the role of Nutrition Program Manager in their absence; and
  • Assist with other tasks as needed.

Coordination:

  • Communicate and coordinate proactively with other ANPPCAN Somaliland teams (program and support functions) to ensure safe, timely, effective and accountable achievement of goals and targets;
  • Representing ANPPCAN Somaliland at meetings relevant to ANPPCAN Somaliland’s nutrition work in the Togdheer region, including meetings with partners, donors, government officials and cluster/sector coordination meetings;
  • Ensure that the programming approach of ANPPCAN Somaliland is known and properly understood by all field level stakeholders; and
  • Proactively engage and build a good relationship with INGO, UN, local authority representatives, community representatives and any other relevant stakeholders in the field that contribute to shaping the overall nutritional status of the Togdheer population.

Administration, personnel, logistics and procurement:

  • Plan the program’s supply needs and regularly distribute them to all target health facilities in a timely manner;
  • Routinely monitor employee performance according to their job description and set targets;
  • Create the conditions to ensure effective teamwork and morale are strictly observed;
  • Ensure that all service providers clearly understand and perform their duties in accordance with personal work plans, humanitarian principles, core values, the Code of Conduct and SPHERE standards;
  • Contribute to communications, program visibility and promotional work as needed;
  • Provide nutritional program staff with appropriate and timely feedback on their performance; and
  • Manage food supplies; monitor consumption rates and ensure supplies are ordered on time;

Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, Learning and Reporting:

  • Integrate MEAL approaches and activities into program plans and schedules and outline how MEAL will be implemented at each phase of the program cycle;
  • Assist the MEAL Focal Point in establishing the MEAL system, data collection tools, and a formal mechanism to collect, monitor, respond, and respond to community feedback and complaints.
  • Based on insights, insights, feedback and assessment data generated from the MEAL system, identify and leverage the best approaches to provide communities with relevant and actionable life-saving and life-enhancing activities and information.
  • Ensure success stories are regularly documented to show program improvements over time and to demonstrate the value of program activities.

Compliance, Ethics and PSEA and GEI:

  • Actively promotes PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within ANPPCAN Somaliland and among the beneficiaries served by ANPPCAN Somaliland;
  • Ensures all staff and volunteers receive basic PSEA and complaints handling training;
  • Complies with the policies and practices of ANPPCAN Somaliland regarding child and adult protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures;
  • Encourages and promotes a culture of compliance and ethics throughout ANPPCAN Somaliland;
  • Maintains a clear understanding of, and adheres to, ANPPCAN Somaliland and donor compliance and ethics standards as applicable to the position;
  • Promotes a productive work environment that respects the Code of Conduct, with no tolerance for verbal and physical abuse or discrimination based on race, color, sex or creed; and
  • Understands and implements the responsibilities under ANPCAN Somaliland’s Protection and GEI policies and Code of Conduct (CoC) and ensures that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
  • Ensures that all staff in the unit are properly briefed on ANPPCAN Somaliland’s Safety and Conduct Policy and understand their role;
  • Ensures that ANPPCAN Somaliland’s Adult and Child Protection Policy and Code of Conduct are fully embedded in daily work; and
  • Works with the highest integrity.

qualification and experience

  • Master’s degree with at least 4 years of experience in public health, nutrition, nursing or a related field;
  • MBBS/Bachelor degree with 4 years of direct work experience in nutrition programs and implementation of nutrition intervention programs;
  • understanding of nutritional monitoring and information systems;
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in planning and delivering a formal training session on nutrition including IMAM and IYCF;
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, train and coach local staff and community nutrition workers;
  • Excellent communication skills and a willingness to be respectful, kind, sensitive and empathetic towards children and their carers;
  • Willingness and ability to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions;
  • Strong report writing and computer skills
  • Fluent in spoken and written English and Somali
  • Commitment to and understanding of the goals, values ​​and principles of ANPPCAN Somaliland
  • Computer skills in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
