Partner Project Manager/Coordinator – Kenya


Malteser International, the worldwide relief organization of the Order of Malta for humanitarian aid, works in more than 20 countries in Africa, Asia and America for people in need, regardless of religion, origin or political affiliation. Their task is to provide emergency aid and implement rehabilitation measures and to facilitate the link between emergency aid and sustainable development. Christian values ​​and the humanitarian principles of impartiality and independence form the basis of their work in the following areas: relief, reconstruction and rehabilitation; Health & Nutrition; Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH); livelihood and social programs and disaster preparedness.

Malteser International has been present in Kenya since 2001. In collaboration with various donors, sectors, partners, other stakeholders and the MoH, Malteser International implements several partner-led projects in Kenya.

The aim of this position is to ensure the management and coordination of all partner-related projects. It should also ensure that project activities are aligned with administrative guidelines and linked to the national strategy for Kenya. Output, result and set goals should also be regularly monitored and achieved. Malteser International is looking for a motivated person for this

Partner Project Manager/Coordinator

Main purpose of the role:

The Partner Project Manager Kenya is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the various projects and activities undertaken by Partners, including managing reports, contacts, field visits, due diligence, providing partner development workshops, etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Identifies potential new partners related to CC and PC and supports/performs the necessary partner assessments
  • Support local partner organizations and Malteser International in planning and designing project activities, including preparing proposals, protocol frameworks and budgets
  • Project Rapid Assessments in Kenya for proposed new projects and as a member of assessment teams
  • Support partner framework developments conform to donor standards where desired and applicable
  • Ensuring effective and timely implementation of projects according to the set goals/indicators and promoting the quality of project implementation according to Malteser International and donor guidelines and standards
  • Setting up and maintaining mechanisms/tools/systems in cooperation with local partner organizations to closely monitor and evaluate activities, their quality and impact
  • Responsible for overseeing the administration, finances and logistics of partner organizations to ensure appropriate record keeping and compliance with Malteser International and donors’ administrative, financial and procurement procedures and policies. This should be done in close coordination with the Kenyan finance manager, the HQ program and the administrative units
  • Develop the capacity of local partner organizations through regular (quarterly) review and feedback to ensure they can meet required procedures and policies and for effective project implementation
  • Assist partner organizations in planning, preparing and producing proper and timely project reports in compliance with Malteser International and donor requirements
  • Engage with relevant donors and, where appropriate, assess funding opportunities for partner-led projects and ensure close collaboration and coordination with collaborating partners and stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation of activities and achievement of outcomes set out in grant agreements
  • Use ingenuity in project design, implementation and monitoring. Trouble shooting project problems, identifies and implements creative solutions. And responsible for overseeing the development and execution of project deliverables, directing project planning, budgeting, action plans, and overseeing processes
  • All other duties relevant to Malteser International and partner projects assigned and required by CC/HQ

Qualifications:

  • University degree in a field related to humanitarian aid/development
  • At least five years of practical project experience in the NGO sector, management and coordination of partners
  • Track record of managing contracts, grants and programmatic activities
  • Experience working in the ASAL regions of Kenya
  • Track record of collaborative and integrative project development and reporting
  • Demonstrated collaborative approach, including experience working with government officials and various partners
  • Proven ability to facilitate workshops, manage diverse teams and support others in their work
  • Experience in WASH is required
  • Experience in the One Health approach is an additional benefit
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet etc.
  • Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English
  • German & Swahili language skills are an advantage
