But in the case of certain fruits like pomegranates, people do not know how to use the skin and end up throwing it away. Pomegranate skin is dried in the sun for several days and then turned into a fine powder. This can be stored in a jar at room temperature and added to food to boost immunity or can be applied to the skin for beauty benefits.

Pomegranate is low in calories and also has a low glycemic index which makes it a better option to control blood glucose levels by maintaining a normal body weight ensuring a healthy gut to support better immunity,” says Priscilla Marian, Executive Nutritionist, Cloudnine Hospital, Kalyani Nagar, Pune.

“Pomegranate skin has a thick and leathery texture that is usually considered useless but many researchers have proven its benefits for various uses. It is used in the preparation of many nutraceutical and cosmetic products. Pomegranate skin is dense with qualities equivalent to the nutrients of pomegranates,” said Marian.

Detoxify the body
Fresh pomegranate skin should be washed clean under running water and boiled for a few minutes to get the extract. This extract can be mixed with lime and a pinch of salt and consumed throughout the day to detoxify the body. This skin is loaded with antioxidants and Vitamin C which is necessary for better detoxification.
Relieves cough and cold
This skin should be dried and ground into a fine powder. It can also be baked before. This powder should be stored in an airtight container or in the refrigerator. You can mix half a teaspoon of honey with a teaspoon of bark powder and use it during coughs and colds. It is beneficial for any age group. Pomegranate skin is useful in throat infections because of its antibacterial and anti-allergic properties.
Helps in skin care and hair loss
Fresh pomegranate skin should be washed clean and finely ground before adding a little aloe vera pulp, rose water and a little curd. This face pack can be used twice a week for beautiful and radiant skin.
