Russian Defence Ministry says airstrike on Syria’s Idlib kills 45 terrorists of Al-Nusra


A Russian airstrike in Syria’s Idlib province has killed 45 terrorists belonging to the Jabhat al-Nusra terror group, a Russian Defense Ministry official said. At a briefing, Major General Oleg Egorov, deputy head of the Russian Defense Ministry’s Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria, said that Russian Aerospace Forces carried out a group airstrike on the base of the terrorist organization Jabhat al-Nusra in Idlib province, Sputnik reported. Egorov stated that the airstrike carried out by Russian forces killed over 45 terrorists, including field commanders Sayyid and Abu Dujana al-Diri.

“On September 17, the Russian Aerospace Forces conducted a group airstrike on the base of the terrorist organization Jabhat al-Nusra in the Sheikh Youssef area of ​​Idlib province. The attack destroyed an arms depot, two material depots and killed more than 45 militants, including field commanders Bilal Sayyid and Abu Dujana al-Diri.” sputnik quoted Major General Oleg Egorov as saying.

According to Egorov, the terrorists killed in the airstrike were directly involved in attacks on Syrian troops and civilians. He stressed that the terrorists are planning sabotage and terrorist activities in the Syrian province of Idlib. Major General Oleg Egorov further said that in one day the terrorist group’s militants carried out five artillery strikes in the Idlib de-escalation zone. According to him, bombing raids were reported in the provinces of Aleppo and Latakia.

Russia claims the leader of the Katibat al Tawhid wal Jihad group was killed in an airstrike

On September 9, Oleg Yegorov, deputy head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Parties in Syria, said Sirajuddin Mukhtarov, the leader of the Katibat al Tawhid wal Jihad terrorist group, was killed in a Russian airstrike. According to him, Sirajuddin Mukhtarov was responsible for organizing terrorist attacks on Syrian government forces and civilian infrastructure. Oleg Yegorov said: “According to the latest reports, the leader of the illegal armed group Katibat al Tawhid wal Jihad Sirajuddin Mukhtarov (codename Abu Saloh), who was behind the organization of terrorist attacks on Syrian government forces and civilian infrastructure, was killed as a result of an attack by the Russian Aerospace Forces on a militant camp in Idlib on September 8,” TASS reported. Yegorov further announced that over 20 senior members of Jabhat al-Nusra were killed.
